Description

This beautiful George III silver cream jug is dated London 1796 and was most certainly made by Peter and Ann Bateman. Of oval bellied form, it is finely bright-engraved with ribbon-tied floral swags and prick-dot motifs surrounding two vacant circular reserves.
Beaded border and reeded scroll handle.
Pale gilt wash.
The base charmingly engraved with Georgian initials. These initials, contemporary to the piece, are very much part of its history.
Hallmarks:
Maker's marks very rubbed but identifiable as those of Peter & Ann Bateman.
London Assay mark.
Lion Passant.
Date letter "A" for 1796.
Duty Mark.
Dimensions and Weight:
Height up to handle: 10.5 cm / 4.2 inches.
Length from spout to handle: 11cm / 4.3 inches.
Maximum width: 6cm / 2.4 inches.
Condition:
Very good apart from the partially erased maker's marks.
