This rare and intricate 19th Century Venetian Pietro Bigaglia and Jacopo Franchini Murrine* glass scent bottle dates circa 1850. The bottle with a vibrant copper aventurine glass background and swirling hues of pink, white and turquoise glass. The body with 6 portrait or face canes also known as murrine inclusions. The murrine include: -1 Egyptian eye -1 man called "Egizio" (it means Egyptian) - 1 star - 2 esoteric symbols - 1 lion, symbol of S. Marco evangelist, patron saint of Venezia. The neck adorned with a gilt metal hinged cap topped with a blue glass jewel and fitted with a suspension chain. The hinged lid opening to reveal the original black glass stopper. * Pietro Bigaglia and Jacopo Franchini were two of the most accomplished glassmakers working in Venice in the 19th century and their scent bottles are very collectable. Murrine glass was created by combining different glass pigments together when cold and heated in a kiln so the glass components melt and bond together to form a multi-coloured mosaic.
