Description

This superb George IV solid silver pounce pot bears the marks of the renowned silversmith Joseph Angell and is dated London 1825. Of squat baluster form, the lower section profusely embossed with floral & scroll decorations and raised on three feather capped scroll legs. The original tight fitting pull-off pierced silver lid with gilded interior.
Pounce pots were used to hold a fine powder that was sprinkled over wet ink to hasten drying prior to the invention of blotting paper.

Duty Mark.
Date letter "k" for 1825.
Lion passant.
