Description

This beautiful Georgian double-lipped wine rinser is etched with stars, always a sought-after design. It dates circa 1795. The lower section etched with stars and bordered by a fine diamond cut frieze.
Smooth pontil to the base.
Rinsers were filled with water and were used by diners to cleanse their wine glasses between courses of a meal. A wine glass could also be left to rest in the rinser, held in place by one of the lips, thereby keeping the glass cool in preparation for a chilled wine. These days they make beautiful rose vases or can equally be used for custard and other culinary preparations.
