Description
This rare 19th Century Venetian Pietro Bigaglia and Jacopo Franchini Murrine* glass scent bottle dates circa 1850. The bottle with a vibrant silver aventurine glass background and swirling hues of blue and white. The body with a total of eight star-shaped canes also known as murrine inclusions.The neck adorned with a gilt metal hinged cap topped with a red glass jewel. The hinged lid opening to reveal the original cork and black glass stopper.
* Pietro Bigaglia and Jacopo Franchini were two of the most accomplished glassmakers working in Venice in the 19th century and their scent bottles are very collectable. Murrine glass was created by combining different glass pigments together when cold and heated in a kiln so the glass components melt and bond together to form a multi-coloured mosaic.
