This very elegant George VI silver vase-shaped sugar caster is dated Birmingham 1938 and bears the marks of the Barker Brothers. Modelled on early George II casters (circa 1730) the baluster body with a detachable pierced cover. The cover with baluster finial and alternating vertical bands of decorative piercing. Raised on a circular pedestal base.

Fully marked on the body.
Partial marks on the inner lid.

This is a gorgeous example. Realistically modelled, the unusually slender body chased with hair, the back with foliate hinged cover with fly finial, in the manner of John Schuppe. The tail acting as the handle, the pierced mouth as the spout. She is a very pretty and charming example in wonderful condition.

This is a rare and fabulous George III silver sugar or sweetmeat basket dated London 1769.
Of generous proportion, the wire-work body applied with birds of paradise amongst fruiting branches.
The sides with an articulated rope-twist handle, embellished by a floral garland.
The rim with gadroon border.
Raised on a circular pedestal foot with conforming gadroon border.

Hallmarks:

Maker's marks "T. " partially erased, most probably Thomas Pitt, who was active in the 1760's and specialised in pierced works and baskets.

Date letter "O" for 1769

Condition:

Wirework in very good condition.
Some very minor losses to the applied decorations , barely noticeable, metioned for accuracy.

This handsome solid silver sugar bowl is dated London 1818 and was made by the sought-after silversmith Alice & George Burrows. Of oval bellied form, it has an apron base raised on four ball feet. The rim with foliate border. The flat bifurcated handles with foliate decorations. Pale gilt interior. It has a good gauge of silver, a testimony to its quality.

This impressive Edwardian silver sweetmeat basket or sugar vase was made by the renowned William Comyns and is dated London 1909. Of medium to large size, the wirework silver body applied with exquisite cast silver ribbon-tied trailing flowers. The sides with an articulated wirework handle with conforming decorations. The rim with gadroon border. The solid silver base fitted with the original pale amethyst glass liner. The liner a rather unusual and sought-after colour. It is a very refined piece of silver, the quality is wonderful and it bears the marks of a very collectable silversmith.

This fabulous spot-hammered Arts & Craft silver sugar bowl was made by the Arts & Craft maker George Lawrence Connell* and is dated Birmingham 1930. The hammered circular bowl with an everted rim and raised on four distinctive pad legs.

*G.L. Connell is credited with introducing "modern, artistic silverware" to the firm's wares from the late 1890s. His wife Christine was a silversmith, whose work bearing the GLC maker's mark was sold by the firm, and who may well have had a hand in the design of this dish.

This gorgeous pierced silver sugar basket is dated Chester 1896 and nears the marks of the renowned Nathan & Hayes. The navette-shaped body exquisitely pierced with lattice and foliate scrolls surrounding two cartouches, one side vacant, the other engraved with a griffin.
Reeded border and swing handle. The handle hallmarked with Lion passant.
It is fitted with the original and rather beautiful turquoise soda glass liner. A rare colour.
